Family Paddleboarding Packing List: What I Bring for a Fun Day on the Water

Paddleboarding is one of my favorite outdoor activities because almost anyone can do it. Whether you’re going with friends or taking your family out for the day, having the right gear can make the difference between an awesome adventure and a frustrating one.

This is the paddleboarding packing list I would use for a half-day trip on a lake or river.

1. A Good Paddleboard

The most important thing is having a paddleboard you can trust. My recommended paddleboard is:

I have not personally tested every paddleboard on the market, but this is the one I currently recommend based on its features, reviews, and value.

2. Life Jackets

Even strong swimmers should wear a life jacket. Water conditions can change quickly, and safety should always come first.

3. Dry Bags

A dry bag helps keep your gear safe from water. I think this is one of the most important accessories for paddleboarding.

20L Dry Bag

85L Waterproof Backpack

For most people, the 20L size is probably the best choice because it holds snacks, extra clothes, keys, and a phone without being too bulky.

4. Water Bottle

Being out on the water can get hot fast, especially during the summer.

Always bring more water than you think you’ll need.

5. Sunscreen

Nobody wants to end a paddleboarding trip looking like a lobster.

Lotion Sunscreen

Reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially if you’re swimming.

6. Capture the Adventure

If you’re like me and enjoy recording your adventures, an action camera can help you save memories from your trip.

Paddleboarding videos are always fun to look back on later.

Ravnz Pro Tip

Bring a small towel and a complete change of clothes in your vehicle.

Even if you don’t plan on falling in, there’s a good chance you’ll get wet at some point. Having dry clothes waiting for you afterward makes the ride home a lot more comfortable.
